Do not push the broken half deeper
This is the single biggest mistake we see. People try to mash the broken half in with the stub, hoping to turn the lock. All that does is wedge the fragment past the keyway lip, where it becomes much harder to grab.
Do not spray WD-40
WD-40 is a degreaser, not a lubricant for locks. It strips the graphite-based lube your pins actually need and turns dust into sludge. If you have something to spray, a dry graphite lubricant is fine, but honestly, leave it alone until we get there.
Do not try to glue the halves together
Yes, people do this. Yes, the glue ends up inside the cylinder. Yes, it turns a fifteen-minute extraction into a full lock replacement.
Check what is sticking out
If even a sliver of the broken key is poking out of the keyway, you might be able to grab it with needle-nose tweezers, slowly, pulling straight out. If it is flush or recessed, that is when you call us.
