Can you program any key fob, or are some dealer-only?

We handle the large majority of makes and model years that come through Clovis – domestic, Japanese, and Korean brands especially. A small number of newer European models and certain push-start systems are locked down so tightly that only the dealer's online portal can register them. My fob is one of those models the dealer says only they can do – is that true?

Sometimes, but dealers say it more often than it's actually true. Plenty of fobs marketed as dealer-only can be paired with proper diagnostic equipment, which we carry. There's a real short list where the manufacturer requires their own server, and we're honest about those. Give us the year, make, and model and we'll tell you whether we can pair it here in Clovis or whether the dealer genuinely is your only option.

I put in a new battery and the fob is still dead – now what?

That's a common one and it actually narrows things down. If a fresh, correctly seated battery doesn't bring the remote back, the issue is usually lost pairing, a cracked board inside the fob, or worn button contacts. We test the new battery to rule it out, then check whether the car still sees the fob at all. From there it's either a reprogram or, if the case is damaged, a replacement fob we pair on site.

How long does pairing take once you get here?

For most everyday vehicles, the programming itself runs maybe fifteen to thirty minutes once we've diagnosed it. Push-start and immobilizer-equipped fobs take longer because the car often forces a built-in security delay we have to wait through.
