Can you program any key fob?

Most of them. The bulk of Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia fobs we pair right in your Moorpark driveway, including proximity push-start remotes and a lot of aftermarket remote-start units. A small number of newer cars lock programming behind the factory network — more on those below — but for the average car parked here it's a straightforward on-site job.

Are there models you can't do without the dealer?

A few. Some late-model European makes, and certain very new push-start systems, need a security PIN that only the dealer network releases, and a couple of makes won't accept a new key unless the car is physically at the dealer. If yours is one of those we'll know within minutes and won't charge you to find out. That said, most Moorpark drivers are on domestic and Asian imports we handle in the driveway.

I put in a new battery and the fob is still dead — is it the programming?

Maybe. A fresh CR2032 fixes a lot of dead fobs, but if the buttons still do nothing after a known-good battery, the fob has usually lost its pairing and has to be rewritten to the car. We test the battery first because it's the cheap fix; if that's not it, we reprogram. Our heat out here drains coin cells faster than people expect, so it's always worth ruling out before anything else.

How long does pairing take?

For most cars, fifteen to thirty minutes from the time we're at your door — read the fob, supply or cut a blade if it's a flip key, pair it to the immobilizer, then test every button. Push-start proximity fobs run about the same. The only jobs that go longer are the dealer-PIN models, where waiting on the code adds time, and we'll give you a realistic window when you call instead of a guess.
