A Tuesday Night in Echo Park
The call came in at 9:47 PM on a Tuesday. Marcus was standing barefoot on the sidewalk of Baxter Street in Echo Park, holding an empty trash bin lid, staring at his front door. He’d borrowed a neighbor’s phone to reach us.
“I took the trash out,” he said. “That’s it. Two bags. The wind caught the door and I heard that little click. My phone is on the kitchen counter. My shoes are by the couch. My dog is losing her mind inside.”

The deadbolt popped in under three minutes. Danny used a standard pick for the pin tumbler, nothing destructive. No drilling, no damaged hardware, no scratched paint around the strike plate.
