Jewelry Safe Installation in Woodland Hills: 6 Questions Homeowners Ask Us

May 20, 2026 · 4 min read

The Locksmith HQ Team has been bolting safes into Woodland Hills closets for years — from the gated streets off Dumetz Road to the newer builds near The Village at Westfield Topanga. The jewelry safe in the master bedroom closet is easily our most-requested install. Below are the six questions we get asked most often during the quote.

Where exactly should I put a jewelry safe inside my master closet?

Against an exterior or load-bearing interior wall, anchored into the slab if you have one. In most Woodland Hills homes south of Ventura Blvd we end up bolting into the concrete slab through the closet carpet — that’s the strongest setup and it kills the “lift and walk away” risk that ruins cheap installs. In two-story homes up in the hills off Mulholland, we usually anchor through the subfloor into a doubled-up joist. Avoid the back of a walk-in island; thieves check there first because TikTok told them to.

How much does jewelry safe installation cost in Woodland Hills?

For a typical 100–250 lb residential jewelry safe, our install runs $180–$350 depending on the floor type, stair count, and whether we’re bolting into slab, wood subfloor, or tile. Tile adds time because we core through it carefully so the surrounding tiles don’t crack — that’s an extra $60–$90 on average. If you bought the safe at a big-box store off Topanga Canyon Blvd and need us to haul it upstairs in a Warner Center condo, second-floor delivery typically adds $75–$150. Get a flat number on the phone before we roll — no surprise add-ons. You can see the full service page for scope details.

What size and rating should I get for jewelry alone?

For jewelry you want two things most safes skip: a UL RSC burglary rating (not just “solid steel construction” marketing) and at least a 1-hour fire rating at 1700°F. Jewelry melts faster than people expect — Woodland Hills sits in a high fire-severity zone per the LA City fire map, and we’ve pulled safes out of homes near the 2018 Woolsey burn scar where the contents were destroyed because the safe was rated 30 minutes at 1200°F. For a typical collection — watches, a few necklaces, rings, loose stones — a 1.5 to 2.5 cubic foot interior is plenty. Bigger is not better; bigger means heavier furniture-grade safes that bolt poorly.

Electronic keypad or dial?

For a closet safe you open weekly, get a keypad with a backup key override. Dials are great for safes you open monthly. Whatever you pick, change the factory code the day we leave.

Will installation damage my closet floor or built-ins?

Four 3/8″ anchor holes is the whole footprint. On carpet we lift a small section, drill, anchor, and the carpet drops back — invisible. On hardwood we use the existing seam direction so the holes disappear under the safe and don’t show if you ever move it. Built-in closet systems from California Closets or the custom shops on Variel Ave are usually no problem; we measure the safe footprint against your shelving before we touch a drill. If the safe doesn’t fit cleanly, we tell you on the spot rather than force it.

How long does the actual installation take?

Most jewelry safe installs in Woodland Hills take 45 minutes to 90 minutes on site, start to finish. That includes positioning, drilling, anchoring, leveling, testing the lock 20+ times, programming your code, and walking you through the override key procedure. Stairs, tile floors, and tight closet doors stretch that to about two hours. We schedule one job per slot so we’re not rushing to the next call in Tarzana.

Do I need anything else done while you’re here?

Two things come up constantly. First, the lock on the master bedroom door itself — if a safe is worth installing, the bedroom door deserves a real deadbolt, not the builder-grade Kwikset that came with the house. Second, larger Woodland Hills homes with housekeepers, dog walkers, and pool service often benefit from a master key system in woodland hills so you can give limited access without copying your house key six times. We can knock both out the same visit. For everything else we do locally, the Woodland Hills locksmith services page has the full list.

A small thing that matters

Ask whoever installs your safe to leave the override key with you in a sealed envelope — never inside the safe, never in the nightstand. A safe deposit box at the Chase on Ventura Blvd or with a trusted family member off-site is the right move.
