If a tech shows up and quotes $600 to “repair” a $40 entry knob, call someone else. That’s not repair — that’s a sales pitch.
What moves the price up or down
The age and brand of the lock
A 2019 Schlage B60 is a 20-minute job. A 1940s mortise lock on a Craftsman in Angelino Heights might need parts we have to source from a specialty supplier downtown. Parts availability alone can swing the bill $60 – $100.
The actual failure
A jammed cylinder from grit and dried lubricant is cheap. A sheared tailpiece, a broken bolt, or a cracked housing means replacement of internal components. We always diagnose before we quote.
Door condition
Half the “broken lock” calls we run in places like Mar Vista and Eagle Rock are really misaligned doors. The lock is fine — the jamb sagged. That’s a strike plate and hinge adjustment, usually under $120.
The step-by-step: what happens when we show up
