About the service

Professional Transponder Key Programming in Fresno

If your key turns and the starter cranks but the engine dies a second later, you are almost never looking at a dead battery or a bad starter. That is the immobilizer doing its job. Since the late 1990s most cars sold around Fresno carry a chip inside the key head that has to talk to a receiver ring on the ignition before fuel and spark are allowed. A hardware-store copy that fits the cut will turn the cylinder all day and still leave you sitting in the Save Mart lot off Blackstone.

We handle the chip side, not just the metal. Whether you drive a Camry baking in a 105-degree July, a work truck running the SR-99 produce routes, or a CR-V parked in a Tower District driveway, the fix is the same idea: read the car, write a key it will accept. We come to you anywhere from 93650 to 93705.

What to expect

What Happens When You Call Us in Fresno

First we confirm it really is a transponder problem. If the dash immobilizer light blinks and the engine catches then quits, that points us at the chip rather than a worn cylinder or a fuel issue. We identify your exact make, model and year, because a 2008 Corolla and a 2019 Ram program two completely different ways, and some Hondas and Fords need a separate PIN pulled before anything will pair.

If you still have one working key, cloning or adding a spare usually takes us fifteen to thirty minutes at the curb. With no working key at all, we read the vehicle through the OBD port or the immobilizer module, generate a fresh chip and program it from scratch, which runs longer. Either way the van carries blanks, a key cutter and the programmer, so we work in your driveway near Fresno High or a parking stall off SR-41 instead of sending you to a dealer.

Real Questions from Fresno

asked by actual customers · from our dispatch log
I lost my key and don’t have a spare. Are you able to provide the key as well?
Yes — we provide everything: the key, cutting, and programming, all done on-site. With no spare it lands on the higher end of the estimate, and we confirm the exact price at the car before any work.
$89 to cut and program a key? (asked about a 2001 Ford F150)
The price depends on whether the key can be decoded from your lock — that’s not always possible. If it’s simply a matter of duplicating the key, the cost is $89.
My key fob stopped working and the car doesn’t have a lock to insert the key in. How much would a replacement fob cost? It’s a 2004 GMC Yukon.
Around $159 for just the fob. The car does need to be unlocked for us to program it.
If the tech comes out and tells me it’s way expensive, is there any charge for him coming out if I decline the price?
No charge at all — if the price doesn’t work for you, you’re free to pass, no obligation.
Do you accept Cash App?
Yes — we accept Cash App, Zelle, cash, and all major cards, whatever’s easiest for you.

FAQ

Why won't a cut key start my Fresno car when it fits the ignition?

Because cutting only matches the mechanical blade. Almost every car on the road here also has an immobilizer that checks for the right chip signal before it lets the engine run. A key that is cut but not programmed will turn the cylinder and crank the starter, then the computer kills fuel and spark within about a second. We program the chip to your specific vehicle so the immobilizer recognizes it and the engine stays running.

Can you clone my key or do you have to program a new one?

It depends on your make. If you still have a working key, many Toyotas, Nissans and older GM cars let us clone the existing chip onto a spare in a few minutes, no dealer needed. Other makes, including a lot of Hondas, Fords and newer push-start vehicles, won't clone, so we program a fresh key directly to the car through the OBD port instead. We tell you which path yours takes before we cut anything.

What is an immobilizer and does every car in Fresno have one?

An immobilizer is an anti-theft system that pairs a chip in your key with a receiver around the ignition or a control module. If the codes don't match, the car cranks but won't start. Federal anti-theft pushes mean nearly every vehicle built since the late 1990s has one, so unless you're driving something genuinely old, yours almost certainly does. That's exactly why a plain cut copy isn't enough.

You're my only option if I lost all my keys, right? How does that work?

An all-keys-lost case is the harder one, but yes, we handle it on-site, no tow to a Fresno dealer. With no working key to copy, we read the car's immobilizer data through the OBD port or the module itself, recover or generate the security code, then cut and program a brand-new key from scratch. It takes longer than adding a spare, but you drive away with a working key the same visit. Call (818) 398-9391 and have your VIN ready.
