Can you open my safe without damaging it?

Most of the time, yes. On dead-keypad and lockout-mode safes we usually restore power or reset the timer and the door opens normally – no marks at all. Lost-combo and inherited safes often open through manipulation or manufacturer recovery codes. We only consider a drilling approach as a last resort, and even then it's done in a controlled spot that a locksmith can repair. We'll tell you up front, before any work starts, what your specific safe is likely to need.

My safe's keypad is completely dead – is the code gone?

No. A dark keypad almost always means dead batteries, not a lost code. Electronic safes keep the combination in memory whether or not there's power. On many models we can feed power through an external contact or an override keyway, and once the keypad lights back up your existing code works as it always did. We carry fresh batteries and swap them on the spot so it doesn't happen again next month.

I lost the combination – what now?

That's a routine call. Depending on the safe we either manipulate the lock open, pull a recovery or reset code from the manufacturer using the model and serial number, or use the override path the maker built in. Inherited safes in older Santa Barbara homes – Riviera, the Mesa, the East Side – come with no paperwork all the time, so don't worry that you're missing something. Bring whatever documentation you do have; if there's none, we work from the safe itself.

Will the things inside the safe be safe while you open it?

Protecting the contents is the whole point. The non-destructive methods we try first don't touch the interior at all – the door simply opens. Even in the rare case a safe has to be drilled, the entry point is chosen specifically to avoid the storage area, the relocker, and anything stored inside. Cash, documents, jewelry, firearms – they come out exactly as they went in. If we don't think we can open yours cleanly, we'll say so before starting.
