Can you program any key fob?

Most, but not all. For the common makes driving around Sunland — Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Nissan, and plenty of others — we can cut, pair, and test right at your place. A handful of European and newer push-start systems lock programming to the factory. Give us the year, make, and model over the phone and we'll know before we head up the hill.

Are there cars only the dealer can program?

Yes. Some recent models — certain BMW and Mercedes, a few late push-start Toyotas and others — encrypt the key data so only the automaker's server can add a fob. If yours is one of those, we'll tell you straight instead of charging for a trip out to Sunland that can't finish, and point you the right direction.

My fob died right after a new battery — is it the battery or the programming?

Could be either, and it's the first thing we check. A fresh coin cell reads dead if the contacts corroded or the little board cracked, and a fob can also lose its pairing after the car sat with a flat 12-volt. We test the remote under load before assuming it needs reprogramming, so you don't pay for pairing you didn't need.

How long does programming take?

For most cars, once we're at your Sunland driveway with the right blank, the actual pairing runs a short window — often quicker than the drive down out of the hills to a dealer would have been. Cutting a blade or pulling a stubborn immobilizer code adds a little. Dealer-locked models are the exception, and we flag those before we start.
