Do I actually need a panic bar for my new Altadena business?

Can the panic bar still lock from the outside?
Yes — that’s actually the whole point of “exit only” hardware done right. The push bar always allows free egress from the inside (code requires it), but the exterior side can be configured several ways: no outside trim at all (true exit-only), key-operated lever, or electrified for access control. Most Altadena retail clients go with a keyed exterior lever so staff can come in through the back door without walking around. What if my building is older and the door frame isn’t standard?
