About the service
Professional Car Key Cutting in Los Angeles
A car key wears out slowly, then all at once. The blade you've jiggled for months finally refuses to turn one morning in a Boyle Heights driveway, or the one key your family shares disappears into a jacket somewhere between Lincoln Heights and downtown. We cut new blades for that — clean duplicates off a working key, or fresh keys cut to code when there's no original left.
Older cars on the tight streets off Dayton Avenue usually take a standard edge-cut blade; most vehicles from the last fifteen years use a laser-cut sidewinder, milled on a machine made for it. Whichever yours is, we cut it to turn your ignition, not just to look right on a rack.

What to expect
What Happens When You Call Us in Los Angeles
When we pull up, we first check what blade your car actually uses — read off your existing key, the ignition, or the code on file for your VIN when nothing usable is left. That tells us whether it's a simple edge cut or a high-security laser blade, and whether the key carries a transponder chip that needs programming to start the engine. Cutting and programming are two different jobs; plenty of keys need both.
We cover the central and east-side ZIPs — 90001 through 90006 — plus Chinatown, Little Tokyo, and the blocks hugging the I-10, I-110, and 101. A straight duplicate is a few minutes at the curb; a cut-to-code or laser key with programming runs longer, depending on the make. We'll tell you which before we start.

FAQ
Can you cut a car key without the original?
Yes. If every key is lost, we cut to code — pulling the key code from your VIN, the lock cylinder, or the manufacturer — and make a working blade from scratch. Bring your ID and proof the car is yours; for cut-to-code work we verify ownership before we make the key.
Laser-cut or standard blade — which does my car use?
Older vehicles take a standard edge-cut key, with notches cut into the side of the blade. Most cars from roughly the last fifteen years use a laser-cut sidewinder, milled with a wavy channel down the center. That needs a different machine, which we carry, so either way we can cut it where you're parked.
Does the new key need programming too?
It depends on the car. If your key has a transponder chip, or it's a remote or fob, cutting the blade only gets the door and steering to turn — the engine won't start until the chip is programmed to your vehicle. A plain metal key with no chip just needs cutting. We handle both and tell you which yours is up front.
How long does car key cutting take?
A straight duplicate from a working key is usually a few minutes at the curb. A key cut to code, or a laser blade that also needs programming, takes longer — often twenty minutes to an hour depending on the make and how the car's security is set up. You get the time and the price before we cut anything.

Car Key Cut on the Spot in Silver Lake
Last Tuesday around 7:45 AM, Marco R. was loading groceries into his trunk on Sunset Boulevard near the Intelligentsia Coffee in Silver Lake when his car key snapped clean in half. The blade just gave out — years of wear finally caught up with it.
Marco had to be at work in Glendale by 9. No spare key at home, no time to wait around at a dealership. He searched for a mobile locksmith nearby and called Locksmith HQ 24/7 at (818) 398-9391.
Our technician, already on a job in Echo Park, wrapped up and got to Marco in about 20 minutes. He identified the key type — a standard transponder key for a 2017 Honda Civic — pulled the correct blank from his mobile unit, and cut the new key right there on the curb. Programmed the chip, tested it on the ignition and both door locks. Everything worked on the first try.
Total time from the call to Marco driving away: under 40 minutes. He made it to work with time to spare.
“I thought I’d be stuck there all morning,” Marco told us. “You guys made it way easier than I expected.”
