Can you program any key fob?

Most of them, yes. We pair factory and quality aftermarket fobs for the large majority of makes on the road in LA – domestic, Japanese, and European. A handful of newer luxury and push-to-start systems are locked down tighter and need a security code or extra time. If yours is one of those, we'll say so on the phone before we roll out, not after we're parked in your driveway.

Aren't some fobs dealer-only?

Fewer than the dealership lets on. Certain late-model GM, Mercedes, and a few high-security European cars do route programming through the manufacturer or need a PIN pulled first, and those take longer. But the everyday Toyota, Honda, Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, and Chevy fobs we see across Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights, we handle on-site – no dealership appointment, no tow.

My fob died right after I replaced the battery – is it the battery or the programming?

Usually it isn't one or the other. A new coin cell wakes the remote's radio back up, but if the buttons still do nothing, the fob often lost its sync with the car and needs re-pairing – common after a battery goes fully flat. We test both when we arrive, so you're not paying to program a fob that only needed a two-dollar battery.

How long does pairing take?

For a single fob on a common vehicle, plan on twenty to forty minutes from the time we're at the car. Adding a spare to an existing set is quicker; an all-keys-lost case or a security-gated model runs longer, because the car has to be read and a code retrieved first. We give you the realistic window before we start.
